Former Atlanta United defender Miles Robinson will return to Mercedes-Benz Stadium with the USMNT later this month. Robinson was named to Mauricio Pochettino’s 27-man roster for a March camp in Atlanta ahead of friendlies against Belgium on March 28 and Portugal on March 31. The March window is the final U.S. camp before the World Cup roster is announced May 26.

That places Robinson inside an open roster fight. Pochettino said during his media availability that no centerback has locked down the position and that selection will come from performance, experience, intuition, data and the combinations his staff believes work best.

We need to find the right 26, not the best 26, the right 26. Mauricio Pochettino, USMNT head coach US Soccer Press Conference, March 17, 2026

The U.S. centerback group in this camp includes Tim Ream, Chris Richards, Mark McKenzie, Auston Trusty and Robinson. Ream is the veteran option. Richards enters with the strongest current club form. McKenzie has regular minutes in France. Robinson returns as a regular starter for FC Cincinnati and one of the more experienced centerbacks in the pool.

Pochettino indicated that Ream is not a locked-in starter, leaving the position open going into the March matches.

All the players that are here, 27 players, can have the possibility, can have the facility to fight for their place in the starting eleven. Always is about performance. Mauricio Pochettino, USMNT head coach - US Soccer Press Conference, March 17, 2026

Robinson has long been known for his range, recovery speed, box defending and one-on-one work in transition. Those traits will be tested against the level of opposition the U.S. will face in Atlanta.

Belgium and Portugal bring a different level than a typical international window. These are not opponents that allow for rotation or experimentation. The pace of play, the individual quality, and the margin for error change the nature of the matches. These are scheduled as friendlies, but the expectation is not to treat them that way. The focus is on execution, decision-making, and how the group holds up against top-level competition.

For us, these two games are going to be like World Cup games. Mauricio Pochettino, USMNT head coach - US Soccer Press Conference, March 17, 2026

The matches against Belgium and Portugal come in the final window before the World Cup roster is named, with the centerback group still unsettled.

Robinson returns to Mercedes-Benz Stadium inside that decision, with an established national-team record and current club minutes. It is also a familiar setting, in front of a crowd that has seen him at his best. That does not decide the position, but it is part of the moment. The environment, the level of opposition, and the margin for error all tighten the evaluation.

The March matches will determine where he stands when the final 26 is selected.
