Fortune drives the midfield as Atlanta fight through another open, transitional match

Player Impressions: Atlanta United 1-1 Orlando City

Jay Fortune controlled the game for long stretches while Atlanta fought back through chaos, transitions, and late pressure in Orlando.

The match in Orlando stayed open and transitional for long stretches, making individual influence and repeated involvement more noticeable than either team’s overall shape. Some players repeatedly drove Atlanta’s attacks through combinations and recovery work, while others drifted in and out depending on how transitional the match became. The following impressions are based directly on live match observations and involvement patterns from the game notes rather than post-match statistics.

Lucas Hoyos

Had a quieter night for long stretches, but came up big with several important saves once Orlando started finding space behind Atlanta’s back line. His reactions in transition moments helped keep Atlanta within reach late in the match.
Tomás Jacob

Started well and combined effectively down the right side early, especially with Saba. Orlando kept forcing play toward him and that side became harder to control as the match went on.
Enea Mihaj

A little uneven overall. There were several really important recoveries and blocks inside the box, but also a few rushed clearances that kept pressure alive longer than Atlanta needed.
Juan Berrocal

Nothing flashy, but handled a lot of the ugly defensive work well. Kept stepping into danger at the right moments and rarely made situations worse once Orlando started attacking more directly.
Elías Báez
Elías Báez
A difficult defensive matchup at times, especially when Orlando isolated him in space, but he kept pushing himself higher up the field and gradually became more useful going forward than in the back. His attacking involvement eventually outweighed the shakier moments defensively.
Jay Fortune

Outstanding throughout the match. Controlled the midfield, hit several excellent long passes, cleaned up dangerous moments defensively, and kept showing up in advanced areas when Atlanta needed numbers forward. The goal felt deserved after the amount of influence he had on the game.

The whole game I was just waiting for a ball to come at the top of the box. Jay Fortune, ATLUTD Midfielder - Post-game Press Conference

Will Reilly

Still feels like there is more potential than what showed up in this match. Had a few useful moments helping Atlanta connect play, but drifted out of the game too often and never consistently imposed himself.
Tristan Muyumba
Tristan Muyumba
Really strong defensively in transition moments. Several Orlando attacks were stopped because he recovered quickly and stepped into challenges aggressively. The distribution afterward still feels inconsistent and occasionally slowed Atlanta down.
Matías Galarza
Matías Galarza
Grew into the game after a rougher opening stretch and became much more involved around the box as Atlanta pushed forward. Still played right on the edge physically and emotionally for most of the night and easily could have picked up a yellow.
Alexey Miranchuk
Alexey Miranchuk
Atlanta’s attack flowed through him for most of the match. The passing and vision were very good, especially when switching play or pulling deeper to restart attacks. The finishing was the frustrating part, because several promising moments ended with shots being block or flying well over the bar.
Saba Lobjanidze
Saba Lobjanidze
One of Atlanta’s main attacking outlets all night and much better delivering crosses than in several earlier matches this season. The movement and involvement were consistently dangerous. The finishing still lets him down too often.
Fafà Picault
Fafà Picault
Atlanta immediately looked more dangerous on the left once he entered. Brought energy, direct running, and helped stretch Orlando backward during some of Atlanta’s best attacking stretches late in the match. Injuries are obviously now a concern.
Matt Edwards

Made a real impact after coming on. Played much more like a winger than a defender and kept attacking space aggressively down the right side. His assist on the equalizer matched the confidence he brought to the game.
Stian Gregersen
Stian Gregersen
Settled things down defensively after coming on and handled several dangerous late moments cleanly. Also played an important role in the buildup to the equalizer by stepping forward aggressively before releasing the ball wide.
Emmanuel Latte Lath
Emmanuel Latte Lath
Worked hard defensively and helped Atlanta keep pressure on Orlando late. But as a striker, he never really became part of the attack. There were stretches where it was easy to forget he was even on the pitch. He is in desperate need of playing well.
Cayman Togashi
Cayman Togashi
Kept finding decent attacking positions, but looked hesitant once chances actually arrived. Too many moments slowed down around him when Atlanta needed quicker decisions near the box. He may be playing his way out of contention.
